Hot Tub's at a festival?
AltSounds' editor Ffion Davies discusses Nova Festival's Spa Section
Now the festival season is nearly upon us, there seems to be a spike in the amount of different festivals you can attend, but is the line-up enough to persuade you to choose one over the other? Ffion, an editor at AltSounds.com, tries to figure out if the hot tub and festival mixture will leave you feeling refreshed, or leave the festival curators with a hangover at the end of the weekend.

I’m an editor for one of the UK’s leading music tastemaking websites, AltSounds.com, so coming across the vast range of festivals that are at our disposal, is part of my daily routine at the moment due to the amount of promotional emails that flood my inbox. It’s great to see such variety and unique takes coming from all angles imaginable in order to create the perfect festival experience for the punters who decide to spare with their cash to attend your weekend. Although lineups used to be the sole decision maker when it came to festivals back in the day, it’s now more of the weekend experience and the ‘extras’ that come along with going to a certain festival.

Nova festival have decided to include hot tubs as part of their ‘rejuvenation’ part of their festival experience, which I can’t seem to decide if this is a good or not so clever decision on the festival organisers as maintaining hot tubs can be a tricky thing when you have a vast amount of people using them. Also, I’m not so sure I’d take a swimming costume over to a festival either, especially because I’d be there to enjoy the music first and foremost.
Don’t get me wrong, having a hot tub is adds that extra bit of luxury and relaxation that any other form of distressing is hard to compete with. With having a hot tub at home, it’s a perfect place to unwind after a stressful day at work, especially with some beer and a great new playlist on the waterproof MP3 player.
I suppose Nova Festival are completely recreating the festival experience in order to offer a unique and relaxing aspect to its diverse range of options, attracting a wide range of festival goers that wouldn’t usually participate in festivals. With this is mind, maybe having the ‘spa’ section of the hot tub is fantastic, but is it really offering the full hot tub experience when they’re using Swedish style hot tubs? I’m not convinced. Great idea, but just not for me.
